Bearhill Huskies
We had the most amazing Husky adventure with Bearhill Huskies! This special Arctic Husky Farm is tucked away in the snowy forests about 45 minutes from Santa Claus Village. The trip there was part of the fun. A comfortable excursion van picked us up in town and made a few stops to gather other excited families. As we got closer, the scenery became more and more beautiful. Snowy trees lined the road, and everything looked like a winter postcard.
Bearhill Huskies is known for its focus on responsible animal care and eco-friendly tourism. The farm has been run with passion and love for many years. The people here truly care for their dogs.
Dressing for the Weather
As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed warmly and taken inside to change into special gear. When you visit Rovaniemi in winter, dressing for the cold is super important. Arctic temperatures can be intense, especially when you are outdoors for hours. Luckily, Bearhill Huskies provides everything you need to stay warm and comfortable. Before heading out, we were given thick snow overalls, insulated gloves, and sturdy boots. These clothes are not just warm, they also protect your personal clothes from any curious dog claws or happy jumping paws. We were especially thankful for the overalls when we saw how playful and energetic the huskies were. They love jumping up to say hello.
Bearhill has a warm building where everyone can change and store their belongings safely. Once dressed, we felt ready to take on the Arctic wilderness. Being properly dressed made the whole adventure so much more enjoyable. We could focus on the beauty around us and the joy of the ride without worrying about the cold.
We were split into two groups. One started with the sled rides while the other began with a tour and educational session. Our family was lucky enough to be in the first sledding group. The excitement was contagious. The huskies were barking and bouncing, clearly ready to go. We could not wait to experience our first ever husky sled ride in the Arctic.
Born to Run Husky Adventure
The Born to Run sled ride was one of the most thrilling experiences of our adventure in Finland! Spider Monkey and I were paired together, while Dustin and Buttercup took the second sled. The girls were all bundled up and snuggled deep into the sled seats, grinning from ear to ear. We started by learning how to drive the sled. The guides gave clear, simple instructions and made sure we felt confident before we took off.
As soon as the dogs were harnessed and ready, they started howling with excitement! These dogs really to love to run!! The moment we lifted the brake, the huskies sprang into action. They were full of energy and clearly loved every second of the run. The trail led us through snowy woods. Everything was white and glistening under the winter sun. Trees sparkled with frost, and snowflakes danced in the air.
The sled moved smoothly along the trail. We could hear the soft swoosh of the runners on the snow and the rhythmic panting of the dogs. Driving the sled felt exhilarating!! Watching the dogs work together as a team was incredible. They knew exactly what to do. This experience truly showed us why these dogs are born to run. It was a perfect! We loved every second and could have stayed out there forever.
Care and Training
While one group was out enjoying the sled ride, the other stayed behind to learn more about the dogs. Our guides were passionate and friendly. They brought us around the farm to meet the huskies and learn how they are cared for. The girls loved being able to pet the dogs, many of whom came right up for cuddles.
We watched as handlers checked each dog’s harness and inspected their feet for any snow build-up or small injuries. The attention to detail was impressive. Every dog was treated like family. The guides explained that training starts when the huskies are very young. They are taught how to follow commands, run in teams, and rest when needed. The farm makes sure the dogs get plenty of breaks, proper nutrition, and loads of affection.
After the tour, we gathered around a cozy fire pit. Warm juice was passed around, which felt amazing after the cold. We learned about the differences between Alaskan and Siberian Huskies and how each dog has a specific role in the team. The staff answered every question with enthusiasm and care.
Meeting the Puppies
Before we said goodbye to Bearhill Huskies, we had one last treat! We got to meet the puppies! Inside one of the warm farm buildings, a special area was set up for the little ones. The girls were overjoyed the moment they saw them. The puppies were wiggly, soft, and full of energy.
It was not just playtime, though. This was also a chance to learn how the farm raises their future sled dogs. Each puppy is given love, attention, and early socialization. The staff told us how they observe each one’s personality to see what role they might play as adults. Some will be lead dogs, while others will thrive in the middle or back of the team.
The Family Verdict

When we left, without our hearts were full, and the girls could not stop smiling! This hands-on experience left us feeling connected and inspired.
